about

A few years back I began brainstorming the concept for a new album. I new what I wanted to call it, the subject matter, and the overall feeling I wanted to convey. Quite a lot has transpired since that day..to say the least. The short version is that I started work on the recording several times. In it's initial incantation, the album was 13 tracks of mostly synth music. Broad, moody, and melancholy it didn't feel quite right. While parts of the tracks ( and a few tracks as a whole ) were pleasing I struggled to find it to my overall liking. I remembered the initial idea I had for the album.. Imagine looking through the afterlife via an old 'View- Master'. I wanted to convey imagery like watercolor landscapes melding and splashing together. It needed to connect but still feel intact as a solid, singular, piece of art. I halted work for a while and gave these concepts more thought. Around this time I was playing more solo dates and conducting sound baths. There's a lot of influence from that period found on the album. I had accumulated 100s of live recordings, bits of ideas, and fragmented melodies for Instagram videos, practice, etc. I decided some of those ideas were just as good as any of the compositions I had written, and I thought they would be useful in pulling the project together. I also had the idea to cut everything to bits and stitch it all back together as one piece. Shortly after putting most of the pieces together, I hit the wall.. The pandemic forced me to stop, and I finally realized how mentally, physically, and spiritually exhausted I was. I locked the album away not knowing if I would ever make music again. Yes, I was that worn down. I took the span of what has been close to a year to work on myself, my marriage, my family's land, and my little garden. Slowly, but surely, the spirit beckoned. I picked things up and even found a few more bits that, I think, helped complete the album. I'm very pleased with the results. I'm proud to finally share 'Beholder' with you all. I hope you'll sit with it, experience it, and above all, I hope it touches your spirit in a positive way. Thanks for listening. Be well. Love to all.

about

when the word was (((sound))) Lake Charles, Louisiana

"Since 2006, when the word was (((sound))), has flown quietly under most radar, engaging in genuinely ritualistic exploration of improvised post-rock, ambient, and New Age vibrations. The pair possess a knack for mining beauty and bliss without ever straying into merely pacifying pastures. Call it aural wallpaper with a soul."
